Originally a quiet village servicing the larger Towns of Marbella and Estepona, San Pedro de Alcantara is rapidly becoming the place to be with people relocating here to get away from the sometimes hustle and bustle of slightly larger towns. San Pedro is located under the Sierra de Ronda mountain range and is just a 7 minute drive from Puerto Banus,10 minutes to Marbella and only 12 minutes West to Estepona. Getting around on the Costa del Sol is very easy as you simply get on the N340 and go one way or the other! The town centre of San Pedro is a mixture of winding streets and avenues leading up from the new boulevard to a pedestrian area to the main church square (plaza) which is surrounded by orange trees and a fantastic place to go to take a cool drink in one of the local café bars.
With the completion of the underpass from Estepona to Marbella the whole centre of San Pedro has been converted with a stunning central boulevard running through the middle. Here there are cycling routes, fountains, children’s play areas and an amphitheatre to watch local groups and flamenco. To the East of the boulevard is an ice rink and skate park where locals and holiday makers hang out in the evenings creating a lovely family atmosphere. If you ask us locals where to go for a nice evening stroll, then we will all mention the boulevard with its lit wooden walkways and manicured garden areas.
Along the Boulevard you will find many new eateries and bars though the more traditional restaurants can be found in the town centre. San Pedro has plenty of wonderful eateries where you can enjoy, traditional Spanish food in restaurants such as Alfredos and La Parilla de Viviana, Thai, Italian, Mexican and some wonderful fish options as well. If you do want to just gaze out onto the shimmering Mediterranean, you can eat right on the beach at Kaluha Kalu or for those special occasions please try El Ancla also located on the beach.
The beach side of San Pedro is known as Nueva Alcantara and here you will find stunning apartment complexes where both Spanish and Europeans have holiday homes. In the summer months’ people are either at the beach or the pools and in the winter months the temperature is still lovely and warm and you feel you have the whole place to yourself! Just a few minutes walk from the boulevard is San Pedro’s Paseo (Promenade), here there is a lovely art and crafts market on a Sunday and the Paseo comes alive with dog walkers and families taking in the winter sun.
Guadalmina
Just a short walk from San Pedro is the prestigious residential area of Guadalmina which is located on two stunning 18 hole golf courses, Guadalmina baja (beach side) and Alta (mountain side of the N340). Here you will find lovely apartment complexes and Individual Villas on beautiful tree lined streets or with fantastic front line golf locations. The area of Guadalmina has a great commercial centre with every type of shop you will need from supermarkets to hair salons and a wide choice of restaurants and café bars and has a lovely community feeling with many residents living there all year round.
Behind San Pedro and Guadalmina there is an exit from the Costa del Sols new AP7 motorway link making the journey from Malaga airport take only 45 minutes under the mountain ranges with stunning scenery on the way!
